Choosing Motorcycle Street Helmets

Your helmet is the most important safety gear you will buy for your motorcycle riding and it's important you know everything there is to know about choosing motorcycle street helmets that will keep you safe.

Let's start with outlining what your helmet does for you:
1. It prevents you from coming under attack from insects. After all you don't want to loose control because of a bug do you?
2. You don't have to worry about getting stung by a bee or wasp.
3. You can ride in the rain. If you've ever tried to go down the highway with your head out the window in the pouring rain you now how much that hurts! Your helmet will protect you from that.
4. It helps keep your body temperature consistent. You loose most of your heat from your head and your helmet stops this from occurring.
5. It will help reduce your risk of sunburn.
6. It reduces glare from the sun and allows you to see when the wind is blowing in your face. Squinting could be hazardous to your health.
7. Your eyes are protected from flying dusts and debris.
8. Your helmet will keep you alive in the event of an accident. Let's hope it never comes to that but if it does it will be there for you.

Now in order to make sure your helmet comes through fro you should the need arise it's important that your helmet is the correct size. Here's how to tell that it fits right.

1. It should feel too small when you first pull it on. You should grab the chin straps and gently pull the helmet apart to slide it on. It's a common mistake to want to buy a helmet one size too big. Don't make that mistake. You'll get use to the tight fit and it's the right fit.
2. Once you get the helmet on take your hands and attempt to move the helmet up and down and side to side. You skin should be moving with the helmet.
3. Your helmet should start just above the eyebrows.
4. Do the chin strap up and then leave the helmet on for 5 minutes to see if there are nay pressure points. A good fitting helmet will have no pressure points.
5. Over time the soft inner lining will actually mold to your head cradling your head in a safety cone.
6. Try on several different helmets. Just as there are different shaped heads there are different shaped helmets designed for those heads. You need to find the right shape for you.
7. Check that your peripheral vision is good. You don't want unnecessary blind spots that could land you in a heap of trouble.
8. Make sure the chest guard fits correctly over the chin and does not interfere with your mouth.
